Thinking Green – The New Religion

The human species is inherently and resolutely religious.  The Bible and the Christian tradition affirm this truth, even as we know that the religious impulse can so easily transform itself into idolatry.  Even the most cursory of world cultures will indicate the religious fervor that characterizes humanity.  The only observers who seem shocked by this universal phenomenon are the secularists and the prophets of secularization theory who were absolutely certain that religious faith and religious fervor would disappear in the modern world.  Needless to say, it hasn’t turned out that way.

In reality, no single religion could guarantee us a place in Heaven. In the end, what matters is how we a treat other people.:;~

Indeed, no religion can make such a guarantee, only Jesus Christ can secure one’s place in Heaven. -jw

Sorry if this is rude, but that is nonsense. Religions say otherwise. Buddhism for example explains an entirely different way of what is right or good as opposed to what Islam says (just for example). If you actually meant to say “what religions say is irrelevant (or wrong) and that the only thing that matters is treating people “right,” then that would be a different argument. If so, why is that so? What is the standard of what is right? And what or who does it profit if you do that? -jw
